The fifth-lamp-lighting and pledge ceremony of probationer nurses of Bangladesh Adventist Nursing College was solemnized on Thursday 4th March, 2022 at the Young Ja Han Auditorium, Bangladesh Adventist Nursing College. The auspicious ceremony symbolizes the transfer of knowledge, skill and the glorious spirit of nursing down from the age of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing, also known as ‘Lady with the Lamp’. Lamp-lighting is a tradition followed by all Nursing graduates to remind them on the noble traditions of their profession. This tradition commemorates the heroine of nursing, Florence Nightingale, who was seen in the dark alleys with a lamp while caring for the injured soldiers of the Crimean War. The lamp symbolizes the light that a nurse becomes to her patients and as a symbol of hope and comfort to those who are suffering. Graduates light this lamp as a commitment and they recite the Nursing pledge of service. As a tradition, the light of knowledge from the senior most nursing officer in the station is passed through teachers to the new entrants in the nursing profession. On the occasion, this year 104 Nursing students among them 60 Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery students, 6 Diploma in Midwifery students, 38 BSc in Nursing Students took the oath to dedicate herself/himself to his/her profession reciting the ‘Florence Nightingale Pledge’.
